Set Limits

Limiting to location is specific to the catalog since it shows what items are owned by the various member libraries.

The catalog and most databases support other types of limits. Limiting allows you to exclude information based on criteria.

Some common limits are:

  • Limit by date range (e.g. nothing older than 1993)
  • Limit by language (e.g. only things written in Spanish)
  • Type of material (e.g. videorecordings only)

Some subject specific databases offer limits that are specific to the subjects being covered. For instance, ERIC, an education database, allows you to limit by grade level (e.g. middle school).
