Physics: Astronomy

The world wide web has many excellent astronomy resources. This pathfinder was compiled to assist students who are looking for current information about space exploration, the solar system, and other related topics.

  • American Astronomical Society - This professional organization is for astronomers and others with an interest in astronomy.
  • AASTRA - The American Astronomical Society Teacher Resources Agent contains many informative sections, such as "Becoming an astronomer?" and an annotated directory of astronomy education links.
  • The Astrobiology Web and NASA's Astrobiology - These sites provide information about an emerging new field in space science.
  • Encyclopedia Astronautica - This site provides information about the history of space flight.
  • Infosurf: Astronomy - This site is a gateway to other astronomy resources, and is hosted by the University of California at Santa Barbara.
  • NASA Homepage - This is the homepage of the National Aeronautic and Space Agency.
  • NASA Goddard Space Flight Center - Goddard's homepage supports the center's research and education efforts in the areas of Earth science, physics, and astronomy.
  • NASA's Planetary Photojournal - As the title suggests, this site contains images from our solar system. New images are constantly being added to the site.
  • The Nine Eight Planets - William Arnett's impressive tour of our solar system was created for a general audience; no prior knowledge of astronomy is necessary to enjoy this informative site.
  • The Proton Monitor Homepage - This site provides the latest 48 hours of solar wind data, courtesy of the University of Maryland, College Park.
  • Intute Astronomy Gateway - This is a gateway to Internet sites for astronomy resources.
  • Physics and Astronomy Online - a reference site with links to basic information about physics and astronomy.
  • SciTechResearch.gov - This search engine leads to government science and technology websites.
  • SDAC - This site links to the Solar Data Analysis Center at NASA Goddard.
  • SOHO Explore - This is the homepage of NASA's Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO)
  • Solar System Simulator - This site is sponsored by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
  • Space Weather - When you are ready to learn even more about space weather, this site at Rice University is the one to visit.
