This guide lists internet sites for doing research on the sources of finance. Other sources can be found by searching the Aladin Catalog for books and the Aladin databases for journal articles. If you need more help in finding information, please contact a reference librarian.

Corporate Filings

  • 10kwizard - A search engine for SEC filings.
  • FreeEDGAR Database - Real time access to SEC filings.
  • Edgar Online
  • SEC Edgar Database - This site provides the financial (e.g. 10-K) which public companies are required to file with the SEC. Annual reports may be found here although companies are not required to file them. The 10-K reports often contain the same information that is found in the annual reports. Financial forms for private companies can not be found here.

Financial News/Journals

  • Bloomberg News - This site provides daily financial news and headlines.
  • CNN - Financial News - Contains financial news along with stock, mutual fund or money market quotes.
  • eFinancial News - eFinancial News is the Web-based version of the print publication Financial News, one of the leading sources of news and information about investment banking, securities, and fund management in Europe.
  • Financial Times - This site provides about 1/3 of the articles published in the daily Financial Times plus some material original to the site.
  • Journal of Finance - The Journal of The American Finance Association
  • Journal of Financial and Quantative Analysis - The JFQA publishes theoretical and empirical research in financial economics. Published quarterly in March, June, September, and December by the School of Business Administration at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington
  • Journal of Financial Research - A joint publication of the Southern & Southwestern Finance Associations
  • ON24 - On24 is a "source of original and syndicated broadcast news and opinion for the individual investor."

  • bankrate.com - Provides online consumers with financial data, research and editorial information on non-investment financial products.
  • The Gay Financial Network - The Gay Financial Network is a financial news portal that targets the gay community.
  • Independent Means - Financial information geared towards young women.
  • The Investment FAQ - The Investment FAQ offers the individual investor clear and concise information about investments and personal finance.
  • Investools - Links to a number of investment tools including Morningstar Closed-End Funds, Morningstar International Stocks, and Morningstar Mutual Funds.
  • Investor Guide - The site is loosely divided into three areas: Personal Finance, Investing, and Learning.
  • Investor's Alley - A personal investment site offering daily news and stock opinion.
  • Jump$tart - Financial advice geared towards High School students.
  • Max's Investment World
  • The Motley Fool - The Motley Fool online forum is designed to Help readers obtain financial information and discuss ways to make investment and personal financial decisions.
  • MsMoney.com - Offers women a streamlined approach to managing their finances.
  • Myvesta.org - A non-profit, Internet-based financial counseling and services organization.
