Art/Architecture: Women in Art

Feminist art studies is an area of specialty within American University's Art History Department. The links below support that research focus.

Bibliography on Women Artists. From Robin Masi, a faculty member at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston who also co-founded the Varo Registry.

The Feminist Art Worksite. This site was started by current and former students of the California Institute for the Arts. Contains links to exhibitions, a reading list, and related web links.

International archive of women in architecture. Collects documents on the history of women's involvement with architecture, mostly pre-1950.

n.paradoxa. An online and print journal "exploring feminist theory and contemporary women's art practices." The site has links to web sites on Feminist/Women's Art, a list of women's art organizations, a book list that includes a list of international feminist/women artists' exhibitions, and a list of special issues of journals covering feminist/women's art and current journals devoted to these subjects.

Monastic Matrix:A Scholarly Resource for the Study of Women's Religious Communities from 400-1600 CE. Contains an image library of architecture, art objects, site plans, etc.

Search for Information on and Works by Women Artists. From the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

The Varo Registry. A registry of artwork by contemporary women artists.

Women Artists: Self-Portraits and Representations of Womenhood from the Medieval Period to the Present. Has images of self-portraits, brief biography, and references. Maintained by Patricia Lin, a professor of ethnic and women's studies at Cal Poly Pomona.
