Art/Architecture: General Art Internet Sites

The links on this page are to websites with broad coverage either of art in general or one subset of the study of art (architecture, art historical research).

ADAM: The Art, Design, Architecture & Media Information Gateway. Searchable online catalog of more than 2,000 Internet resources. Developed in Britain, so the Web sites are predominantly British, although more than one quarter of the resources are of U.S. interest.

Architecture Internet Resources. From the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Artcyclopedia. Links to information sources on artists. You can find basic information, images of works on the web, museum collections of the artists works, and titles of books about the artist. One nice feature is a notation about which images can be used in projects. Best searched by artist name.

Art History Research Centre. A site sharing resources and methods of art historical research on the Internet.

ArtSource. Selective rather than comprehensive, ArtSource includes pointers to Web and other Internet resources as well as original material submitted by librarians, artists, and art historians.

AskArt.com. This database contains information about artists from the 16th century to the present day. Biographies, auction records, bibliographies, a dealer and museum directory, feature categories, exhibition information, and essays are available.

Mother of all Art and Art History Links. Affiliated with the University of Michigan.

Structurae. This site focuses on works of structural engineering from ancient times to today. Ten thousand structures are represented.

Voice of the Shuttle. A dizzying array of links to Web sites in the humanities, collected and organized by Alan Liu, University of California Santa Barbara. There are sections for Archaeology, Architecture, Art, Modern and Contemporary , Art History, and Photography.

World Wide Arts Resources. Search in more than 3,000 categories of art information.
