Art/Architecture: Artist's Internet Sites

This page is a selection of links helpful to practicing artists.

Artists Collectives and Professional Organizations

artnetweb. Artists Remo Campopiano and Robbin Murphy developed this site as a cyberspace artist colony. It is made up of three parts: resources for artists new to the Internet, local bulletin boards, and a Web site, which includes gallery reviews, an artists' slide registry, artists' projects and writings, and sections on art organizations and art business.

Art on the Net. Art on the Net is a collective of artists helping each other to use the Internet and to share their works on the Web. There are now more than100 artists from around the world, including poets, musicians, painters, sculptors, performance artists, animators, and digital artists.

ArtScope. This site has links to works of more than 250 artists, gallery home pages, fine limited edition prints, and a listing of museum reproductions of famous works of art.

Artworks for Sale. This free index, part of the World Wide Art Resources site, lists art for sale, both by individuals and galleries. You can register to add a listing to the database.

ArtNetwork. Organization that assists artists in becoming successful self-employed business people by giving them access to the resources and benefits of large companies.

Job Listings and Grants

Arts Wire. A program of the New York Foundation for the Arts, Arts Wire is a computer based network serving the arts community. A feature of the site is Arts Wire Current, a weekly digest of news, conferences and events, funding opportunities, and job listings for artists.

National Endowment for the Arts. Includes a guide to the NEA, links to state and regional arts support organizations and an Arts Resource Center.

Artists' Forums

Echo. Calling itself "the virtual salon of New York City," the Echo Web site is home to a number of Webzines and subscription conferences.

The Thing. One of the first visual arts bulletin boards, the Thing now has branches worldwide. At the Web site you can log in as a guest to review messages and post using a Web form.

Works of Web Art and Other Fun Sites
  • ArtCrimes. This site, developed by Susan Farrell at Georgia Tech, provides access to hundreds of images of graffiti from walls all over the world. Also included are profiles of graffiti artists, articles and bibliographies on graffiti and news of upcoming graffiti events.
  • The File Room. One of the earliest art works on the World Wide Web, the File Room is an interactive database recording incidents of censorship throughout the world.
