Discovery Tools
AU Library Announces New Catalog Search Options!
On Wednesday, October 14th, American University Library will begin offering students and other researchers two new options for searching books and other materials in the collections: ALADIN Discovery and WorldCat AU. Both of the new interfaces offer updated features to enhance searching, including the ability to refine searches using faceted lists or in the case of ALADIN Discovery, word clouds which show related terms. Both can export selected records into the EndNote citation software and they offer social networking features such as RSS feeds, text alerts, Twitter and more. WorldCat AU also offers seamless connections to resources in other libraries and to full text to articles in databases.
The two new “catalogs” are really discovery tools that are overlaid on the library’s existing catalog. One uses software called AquaBrowser and the other is a customized local version of WorldCat.org, the catalog of Library holdings world wide.
Below you will find embeded search boxes where you can try out these new services, as well as the original catalog. We invite you to explore these new discovery tools and to let us know what you think.
