Eagle Digitization Fund:

An inspiration of 1987 alumnus, Tom Jacobson, this fund was established in 2004 to provide resources needed to digitize the archives of the American University's student newspaper, the Eagle. Digitizing the Eagle (est. 1925) ensures the paper's long-term preservation and dramatically increases access to the archived issues. Mr. Jacobson helped launch this fund with a generous contribution. Currently the Eagle has been digitized from 1925 to 1994, and it accessible 24-7 through the AU website. The remaining batch is scheduled for digitization soon.

Irene Tinker Fund for Women in International Development:

The Irene Tinker Fund for Women in International Development was established with a generous gift by Irene Tinker in 2005. Dr. Tinker and her colleagues have worked internationally to create repositories archiving the role of women in international development. American University Library, with its strong collection in women’s studies and long-time ties to research in international development, was a natural choice to establish such an archive. The library is seeking to acquire personal papers and files from organizations with the goal of documenting the role of women and gender issues in developing countries. Documenting this field is important to portray the lives and work of women, the communities in which they worked, and the progress being made toward gender equity. The collections will focus on issues ranging from education, employment, and leadership to sanitation and health care. The fund supports the costs associated with accessorizing, cataloguing, and preserving the personal papers of women in international development.
