| Who
are the Friends? |

Activities
celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Jack I. and Dorothy
G. Bender Library and Learning Resources Center in 1999 inspired
the founding of Friends of American University Library. Individuals
with deep loyalty to American University and a strong commitment
to the library's centrality to university life used the occasion
to established Friends. Members work to build support for the
library and to strengthen it through donations of money, books,
and other material. They recognize the vital role the library
plays in learning, teaching, and research. |

Advance
the Library's Mission
Your contribution will help: |
| |
- Enhance
the library collections, facilities, and services, which
support student learning in our nationally recognized academic
programs - the demand for books grows even as more online
resources become available. Electronic resources enhance
access to information still stored only in books, journals,
newspapers, films and videos, sound recordings, and musical
scores.
- Acquire
and conserve special collections of rare books, manuscripts
and other items that spark imagination and provide unique
research opportunities - these irreplaceable holdings include
the Spinks collection of rare Japanese materials, the Martin
arithmetic textbook collection, archives of the National
Peace Corps Association, theatre playbills, and numerous
other collections.
- Expand
the capabilities of the online catalog, ALADIN, with its
links to the collections of the eight-member Washington
Research Library Consortium (WRLC).
- Fund
renovations to accommodate students' changing needs and
expand the library space to house burgeoning quantities
of information and the latest technology.
- Support
professional development of library personnel to meet the
changing needs of a vibrant academic community.
