Linking
Documents from Databases to your Blackboard Course
As
our e-reserves program grows, we are discovering that many of the
journal articles being requested for e-reserves are already available
in our extensive online collection. At this point, the library provides
access to over 15,000 journal titles online. You can link directly
to articles in the vast majority of them using Blackboard’s
LinkMaker feature. Setting up these links yourself can be done in
minutes at any time throughout the semester, without worrying about
copyright restrictions, paperwork, or e-reserve deadlines. LinkMaker
links can be carried over from one semester to another, can be accessed
by users on and off campus 24/7, and can be incorporated into any
of Blackboard’s content areas.
There
are several ways to get started with LinkMaker:
•
Enroll in the Blackboard Library Site:
Integrating Virtual Library Resources into Blackboard
Here you will find information on LinkMaker, including examples
of LinkMaker links and instructions for getting started with LinkMaker.
The site also demonstrates other virtual library resources that
can enhance your Blackboard course. Enrolling in the site installs
a link on your Blackboard “My Institution” page, bringing
the information to one click away at your point of need. To enroll,
e-mail Bobby Reeves, Electronic Resources Specialist, at reeves@american.edu.
•
Download the .pdf document,
Getting Started with LinkMaker
We encourage you to begin using Blackboard’s LinkMaker today.
Not only will it expedite the inclusion of materials into your
course page, but it will allow e-reserves staff to focus on acquiring,
scanning and making available your requests that aren’t
in our online collections.
