| Electronic Reserves
We are pleased to offer the convenience of electronic reserves through Blackboard. With this service, materials are scanned into a database and uploaded to the course's Blackboard page. E-reserves can be accessed from any computer with Internet capabilities, thus providing students with 24-hour access to reserve materials.
Accessing e-reserves
Users can access Blackboard at www.american.edu/blackboard. To access your personal Blackboard page, you will need to login with your Eaglenet User ID and Blackboard passwords.
If a professor is using Blackboard for his/her class, a link to the course page will be located on your personal page under "Courses I Am Participating In." Once an e-reserves folder has been created, an announcement will appear on the course page.
To view e-reserve documents, you need to install Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5.0 on your computer. This program can be downloaded for free at www.adobe.com or my.american.edu.
The e-reserves folder is located under Course Documents. E-reserve documents are listed alphabetically by title. Click on the link provided to view the documents.
If you are accessing e-reserves from off campus, you will be prompted for the barcode number listed on your AU I.D. When entering your barcode, do not include the letters that come before and after the number.
If your barcode number does not work, contact the
at 202-885-3221.
Using Adobe Acrobat Reader
Adobe Acrobat Reader will open automatically once you have clicked on an e-reserve link. If you need to change the layout of an article in order to read it on your computer screen, you will need to use the Rotate option on the toolbar.
For more help with the program, choose Help > Acrobat Guide from within Acrobat Reader.
Problems Accessing E Reserves
If you click on a document and it appears to be blank, you may need to update your system. If you are using Windows XP, you have two options.
- Install Service Pack 2 - this takes a couple hours. Click here for instructions.
- Install Firefox as your browser. Click here for Firefox.
IMPORTANT: If you have Windows XP and continue to use Internet Explorer for other purposes, you must install Service Pack 2 to protect your computer from security risks, whether or not you use Firefox to access Blackboard.
