Borrowing for AU Students, Faculty and Staff

Please Note: It is very important to state where you found your citation. This can reduce the time it takes to get your article or book. If you are trying to verify a citation you may want to try WorldCat . OCLC or ISBN numbers for books and ISSN numbers for articles are very helpful for staff when placing requests and will help expedite the process.

Borrowing Books:

  1. Check the WRLC Catalog to see if the book is owned by a WRLC school and can be ordered through CLS.
  2. If you're searching in Worldcat, click on the link that says "Request this item through ILL." This will prompt you to log into the system. Hit "Request a Book" and the record information will already be transcribed into the web form.
  3. If you are not requesting the book through Worldcat, please go to the Interlibrary Loan forms and login to the system. Click on "Request a Book" and enter all of the required fields.
  4. If the book you want is available at the Washington College of Law Library or at Wesley Seminary Library, Click HERE and fill out the form.

Requesting Articles:

  1. Check the WRLC Catalog to see if the article is owned by a WRLC school and can be ordered through CLS.
  2. If the article is not available through the WRLC, you may place an order by either filling out a paper request at the ILL office, or by logging into the ILL system and filling out an ILL online article request form.
  3. If the article is available at the Washington College of Law Library or at Wesley Seminary Library, Click HERE and fill out the form.

Lending to Other Libraries

AU participates in facilitated borrowing within the Washington Research Libraries Consortium (WRLC). Libraries not affiliated with the WRLC may also make requests. Generally other libraries submit requests to us via the OCLC ILL system by using library symbol EAU.

Libraries that don't participate in OCLC may use this electronic ALA form for articles or the electronic ALA form for books. If your library is a first time borrower, please contact the lending specialist prior to submitting the form.

Borrowers From Other WRLC Universities

Borrowers from other WRLC universities may use the Consortium Loan Service (CLS) to have books and copies of articles from our collections delivered for pick-up at their home libraries. Place CLS requests through the ALADIN online catalog.

WRLC borrowers may also visit American University Library to copy journal articles and check out other materials directly. Be sure to bring your valid home university ID.
