About Washington Research Library Consortium Loan Service (CLS)

What is Consortium Loan Service (CLS)?

CLS is an interlibrary loan service of the Washington Research Libraries Consortium (WRLC). Researchers can request book and articles directly from the ALADIN catalog. CLS is available to all staff, faculty and currently enrolled students of the WRLC libraries.

What do you need?

You need your current AU ID and an e-mail account registered in MyALADIN.

How do you request a book?

1. Find the book you want in the ALADIN catalog.

2. If AU does not hold a copy of the book or if AU's copy is not on the shelf (e.g., the holding record says that the book is checked out, renewed, lost or missing), you may request the book from one of the WRLC libraries.

3. To order the book, find the school that has an available copy of the book and click on the REQUEST button at the top of the page.

4. This produces a prompt that asks you for your barcode or AUID and last name. Enter your barcode found at the bottom of your AU picture ID, numbers only (omit any letters). Type in your last name exactly as it appears on your ID. If you get an error message, contact the Interlibrary Loan Office at (202) 885-3282 or the Circulation Desk at (202) 885-3221.

5. Once you have entered your information, follow the American University Consortium prompt to the electronic form. For articles, please provide the most complete citation and enter your barcode. For books, enter in the pick-up location and your barcode. Click on OK to submit your request. You can continue to request other books or articles.
