Services for Alumni
The library is pleased to continue providing AU alumni with library services. In addition to borrowing privileges and access to online databases, the library (in conjunction with the AU Alumni Office) is now offering the Academic Search Alumni Edition electronic database when you sign up for inCircle.
Borrowing and Renewing Items
The alumni borrowing card lets you check out books from the library collections for four weeks. Fines are charged for overdue items, but you can avoid this by checking your myALADIN account (the
staff can provide you with information on how to do this) and renewing your books up to three times.
An alumni card is needed whenever you want to borrow materials from the library. The card is non-transferable, so family members or colleagues will not be able to use it. Please notify the

On-Site Services
Alumni are welcome to use all library services on site, including access to online databases. Unfortunately, because of licensing and other agreements, student electronic databases are not accessible off site (see below to sign up for the new alumni database). Consortium borrowing is also not available to alumni; however, inter-library loan is available for a $25 fee per item.
Printing is available in the library at $0.10 per page, with the purchase of a Guest Card. Photocopying is available at $0.08 per page with a Guest Card.
Off-Site Services
The ALADIN catalog, your myALADIN account (including online renewal), and the new Academic Search Alumni Edition electronic database are all available from your home or office computer.
To sign up for Academic Search Alumni Edition:
- Go to http://alumni.american.edu
- In the right-hand column under "Stay in Touch" click "Find Your Friends on AU's New inCircle Online Community"
- Click "Continue to inCircle"
- Register for inCircle OR proceed through inCircle login
- Under "American News" click "Access AU Library Resources for Alumni"
- Click the link to Academic Search Alumni Edition
