Charles Nelson Spinks Collection

Charles Nelson Spinks was in the Foreign Service in the Far East for many years. He began collecting works of Japanese Art and History as early as the 1930s. He donated this collection to American University in the 1970s. The collection, which features works from the17th through the 20th centuries, includes work of Japanese Ukiyo-e artists Hiroshige and Hokusai as well was examples of Sogoruku board games including the following:

  • Katsushika, Hokusai, 1760-1849, Kato, Kunizo. Tokaido goju santsugi. Tokyo: Rekishi Gahosha, Showa 6 [1931]AU Special Collections Spinks NE1325.K3 T62
