The 3M™ Self-Check™ System

The American University Library now offers self-service book borrowing. For a demonstration, simply tell the staff member at the Circulation Desk that you would like to try the 3M™ Self-Check™ System. It only takes a moment to experience the future of library materials circulation. You can quickly check-out library books by following the on-screen instructions:

• Place ID card with barcode under, scanline, then remove.
• Open back cover of book, place in cradle, and place barcode on scanline.
• When done, press 'Print Receipt' button on screen.

The 3M™ Self-Check™ System allows patrons the option of checking-out materials on their own when the Circulation Desk is busy, or on occasions when the library is open and the Circulation Desk has closed. You may also renew books by following the same procedures.

Note: You will not be able to use the 3M™ Self-Check™ System if:

•  You have exceeded the limit of fines on your library account.
•  You have overdue recalled materials.
•  Your library borrowing privledges have been suspended.
•  The books that you wish to check-out or renew have been recalled.
•  You have reached the maximum allowable number of renewals for an item.
•  Your photo I.D. card is faded, bent, proferated, broken, or otherwise rendered illegible.
