On Approval

What does it mean the Catalog says something is "On Approval?"

It means that it is a new item that has been received into the building, but it has not yet been processed (e.g. cataloged etc.) so it is not on the shelves.

Can I get an "On Approval" item?

Yes, but not immediately. You have two options.

  • Go to the Reference Desk and fill out a Priority Cataloging Request Form. The library staff will then rush process the requested item and put it aside for you. However, this can still take up to 5 business days.
  • If the item is available at another WRLC Library, it may be faster to request it through CLS.

I'm still confused...

Feel free to contact the Reference Desk at: 202-885-3238
